On Day 3 of the first Test between India and New Zealand at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Ravindra Jadeja gave the struggling hosts a chance to come back in the match. The left-arm spinner's two quick breakthroughs injected new energy into India's efforts to stay positive in the tie.

The veteran first dismissed Glenn Phillips for 14. The left-arm spinner's delivery skidded on, hitting Phillips' pad before crashing into the middle stump. Just in his next over, Jadeja struck again, this time removing Matt Henry.

After being hit for two consecutive boundaries, Jadeja bowled a skidding flat delivery with Henry attempting for an ambitious shot without proper footwork, and missed the ball entirely, which crashed onto his middle and leg stumps. These two quick wickets put the visitors on the back foot, with their score standing at 233/7.

New Zealand began Day 3 with 134 runs lead

After a disappointing Day 2, which saw the Rohit Sharma-led side bundled out for just 46 runs, making it their lowest Test score on home soil, the tourists gained a substantial 134-run lead at Stumps on the second day, and were looking set to dominate the game further. With the Kiwis resuming at 180/3, India desperately needed early wickets to stop the flow of runs.

The day began with Mohammed Siraj providing the initial breakthrough, dismissing Daryl Mitchell. This was followed by Jasprit Bumrah removing Tom Blundell. However, it was Jadeja who truly turned the tide with his double strike.

Earlier in the innings, Kuldeep Yadav had also made valuable contributions, dismissing Tom Latham and troubling Will Young before Jadeja got the better of him. Ravichandran Ashwin, too, played his part by outsmarting the aggressive Devon Conway, who fell in the 90s while attempting to play a reverse sweep.
