Bangladesh came out victorious against Nepal by 21 runs in a low-scoring affair at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown on Monday, June 17. However, the on-field tension spilled over during a heated exchange between Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel.

The incident occurred in the third over of Nepal's chase of 107, with the visitors reeling at 9/2. Tanzim was brilliant with the new ball, having already dismissed openers Kushal Bhurtel and Anil Sah. After dismissing Sah, he bowled two dot balls to a struggling Paudel, further building the pressure.

As the over ended, Tanzim and Paudel exchanged death stares and words, with clear animosity between the two. The umpires had to intervene and ask the Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to defuse the situation.

Tanzim then had the last laugh, as he dismissed Paudel for one in the fifth over of the match. His figures of 4/7 in his allotted four overs played a pivotal role in restricting Nepal to just 85, as the Bengal Tigers booked a Super Eight spot. They are now placed alongside India, Australia, and Afghanistan in Group 1 for the latter stage of the global tournament.

Notably, Bangladeshis were earlier bundled out for 106 after being asked to bat first. At 24/4 in six overs, Nepal's chase was derailed by some brilliant bowling from the opposition seamers. Kushal Malla (27) and Dipendra Singh Airee (25) tried to reconstruct the innings, but the target proved too much. Mustafizur Rahman (3/7) and Shakib (2/17) provided stellar support, but it was Tanzim's opening burst that laid the platform for his side's hard-fought 21-run win.

Meanwhile, the focus of Shanto & Co will now be to make the most out of the Super Eight stage and fancy a chance into the knockouts of the tournament. Their first challenge will be against former champions Australia on June 21, followed by India and Afghanistan, respectively.
