The second match of the Champions Trophy 2025 between India and Bangladesh witnessed both teams experiencing highs and lows on the field. One of the most eye-catching moments occurred in the 37th over of India's chase when Bangladesh’s Jaker Ali dropped KL Rahul’s catch.

While chasing Bangladesh’s 228-run target, the Blue brigade were struggling at 166/4 in the 37th over. At that point, in a bid to accelerate the innings, Rahul attempted a slog against Taskin Ahmed’s length delivery. However, the slower pace of the ball led to a mistimed shot, and it went straight to Ali at deep square leg. What looked like a straightforward catch was dropped as Jaker failed to hold onto the ball.

On witnessing the crucial KL Rahul moment, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who was on the screen, was seen smiling in relief, while Bangladesh pacer Taskin was disappointed. For Rahul and Team India, it was a massive lifeline as it could have changed the complexion of the match completely.

May take Axar for dinner tomorrow: Rohit

Captain Rohit Sharma had a relieved reaction as he had earlier in the first innings, dropped Jaker's catch off Axar Patel’s bowling, denying the spinner a hat-trick. The left-arm had dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim on consecutive deliveries.

On the hat-trick ball, Axar delivered a flighted off-break that took the outside edge of Jaker’s bat and flew straight to Rohit at first slip. However, the 37-year-old fumbled the straightforward chance. Rohit immediately reacted by slapping the ground in frustration and later apologized to Axar by folding his hands. The opener spoke about the drop in the post-match interview.

"May take him (Axar) for dinner tomorrow (smiles). No, that was an easy catch, I should have taken that catch with the standards I have set for myself. But I do know these things are bound to happen. Credit to Hridoy and Jaker, they stitched a nice partnership," he said.

Despite some trouble in the chase, the Men in Blue successfully secured a six-wicket victory over the Tigers, making a winning start in the tournament. Shubman Gill smashed an unbeaten 101 off 129 balls, leading India to a comfortable win with 21 balls to spare. Rahul, benefiting from Ali’s drop, remained not out on 41, while Rohit (41) and Virat Kohli (22) contributed with runs.
