Gaikwad hopes better as CSK leader
Gaikwad had a very disappointing season last year while leading the side where the team finished fifth on the table and missed out on the playoffs after losing to RCB. The Super Kings won seven and lost seven in the 14 matches they played in the tournament, but missing out on Playoffs after winning in 2023 surely raised a few question marks on Gaikwad's leadership potential.
Though the Maharashtra batter scored plenty of runs with the bat, he will want to make some improvements as a leader and live up to the legacy created by Dhoni and teammate who has handed over the reins to him to lead the franchise to a record-breaking sixth title.
His first challenge as skipper and as a batter would be when CSK face Mumbai Indians at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, March 23. The Mumbai-based franchise will be without the services of their skipper Hardik Pandya for this game, since he has faced a ban for the first couple of matches in IPL 2025.
