Sarfaraz Khan started where he left on Day 3 as he remained unbeaten on 70 at the Stumps. Rishabh Pant joined him at the start of Day 4 as Virat Kohli was dismissed on the final delivery of Day 3. The duo started building the partnership but a miscommunication could have cost Pant’s wicket on the first ball of the 55th over.

Sarfaraz played a late cut, off Matt Henry's out swinger, and the duo sneaked a single. But Pant at the opposite end was interested in a double run and almost ran to the other end. Sarfaraz jumped and hopped, signalling the southpaw to avert another sneak, as the wicketkeeper could not collect the ball close to the stumps. In a comedy of errors, wicketkeeper Tom Blundell also missed the chance to hit the stumps, and the batter survived.

Here’s the video of the incident:

Sarfaraz Khan anchors Indian inning

Sarfaraz started the day well churning out singles and doubles with timely boundaries. He had a splendid 136-run stand with Kohli for the third wicket. He took the onus on Day 4 and reached his maiden century via a back foot punch wide of cover that crossed the boundary line. His temperament was tested when India lost two wickets, trailing behind a huge lead of 356 runs.

He was promoted ahead of the likes of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant and the Mumbaiker did not let the dark clouds looming in M Chinnaswamy Stadium cast a shadow further on India’s second innings. It is worth noting that, Pant was hit by the ball on the right knee while keeping on Day 2 and the 26-year-old left the field as Dhruv Jurel donned the gloves. He came into to bat with Sarfaraz and looked jittery at the start while running between the wickets.
