WI vs IND: Team India meets Sir Garfield Sobers in Barbados during practice session
Team India will begin its West Indies tour with a two-match Test series which will be played in Dominica and Trinidad, respectively.
Team India has set foot on the Caribbean shores to play a multi-format series against the West Indies. The Rohit Sharma-led side will begin its tour with a two-match Test series which will be played in Dominica and Trinidad, respectively. Additionally, the two-match Test series will be team India’s first assignment in the new World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
Ahead of the first Test match, several Indian players caught up with legendary West Indies all-rounder Sir Garfield Sobers during a training session. India skipper Rohit Sharma, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin among others shook hands and got clicked with Sobers who is arguably the greatest all-rounder to have played the sport.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Twitter and shared a video of Indian players interacting with the Windies Great. “In Barbados & in the company of greatness! #TeamIndia meet one of the greatest of the game - Sir Garfield Sobers,” BCCI captioned the tweet.

Sobers, a highly skilled bowler, an aggressive batter, and an excellent fielder, was one of the finest all-rounders of his time. The 86-year-old made his West Indies Test debut in 1954 and went on to play 93 Tests between 1954 and 1974, scoring 8032 runs at a stunning average of 57.78. He struck 26 centuries and 30 fifties with his best individual score of an unbeaten 365.
The Barbados-born cricketer picked up 235 wickets, including six five-wicket hauls, at an average of 34.03 and an economy rate of 2.22 in the longest format of the game. Furthermore, the annual ICC Men’s Cricketer of The Year trophy has been named after Sobers.
