In a thrilling encounter at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium, the 2024 Women's Premier League witnessed an exciting contest between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), culminating in a seven-wicket victory for RCB and secured their playoff spot.

Winning the toss, Smriti Mandhana elected to field first. The stage was set as Mi's openers, Hayley Matthews and Sajeevan Sajana, cautiously, started the innings with 43 runs in 6 overs. Then came the Ellyse Perry storm which took the game towards the Bengaluru-based franchise. Perry became the first woman to pick a six-wicket haul in the history of WPL.  After a good opening partnership, Mumbai succumbed to the pressure and lost their wickets in frequent intervals.

Ellyse Perry got the wickets of Sajeevan Sajana, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur, Amelia Kerr, Amanjot Kaur, and Pooja Vastrakar. Priyanka Bala's last-minute cameo of 19 runs kept Mumbai's hopes alive until Sophie Molineux picked the last wicket of Mumbai's innings. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side reached a total of 113 runs with one over remaining,

In pursuit of the target, RCB faced early hiccups with the dismissals of captain Smrithi Mandhana and Sophie Molineux. Even Sophie Devine couldn't stay for a long time at the crease and was bowled by Shabnim Ismail.  Australian all-rounder, Perry again came to the rescue for the Bangalore side.

Though the target was small, Mumbai bowlers with some early breakthroughs came back in the game. Perry along with Richa Ghosh guided the teams to playoffs. The 32-year-old cricketer scored 40 runs and shared a stand of 64 runs with Ghosh. Perry earned the much-deserved Player of the Match accolade for her stellar performance with both bat and ball.
