After two back-to-back defeats in the ongoing IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians have finally registered their first win in the ongoing season as the Rohit Sharma-led side defeated Delhi Capitals by six wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, April 11. The skipper led by example, scoring 65 runs off 45 deliveries, which eventually shaped the fate of the game. Even though the middle-order batters struggled to get going at one point, Tim David and Cameron Green eventually ensured to bring the two points back home.
Meanwhile, after their fantastic win, Mumbai Indians, on their social media handle, took an indirect dig at Royal Challengers Bangalore, as their fans previously mocked the India skipper at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. During MI’s clash against RCB, the home fans were shouting, ‘Rohit Vadapav’, which didn’t go well with the five-time champions.
Replying to the criticism from the RCB supporters, MI on their socials posted, ‘You believe in Karma, we believe in Sharma’. Notably, the 35-year-old failed to make any significant contribution in the match against RCB, but nevertheless, arrived at the party late, but put on a show against DC and eventually won his 19th Player of the Match award - which is the most by an Indian in the history of the competition.
Meanwhile, Delhi, on the other hand, suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the league. They are currently at the bottom of the IPL Points table, and things are not looking very promising at the moment. David Warner once again registered a half-century, but his strike rate remains a massive concern. Middle-order batters are yet to prove themselves, while there’s a lot of room for improvement for the bowlers.
However, Axar Patel’s form with the bat is a massive positive for the side. The Southpaw smashed 54 runs off just 25 deliveries against Mumbai Indians and, thus, deserves a promotion in the batting order, but that hasn’t been granted yet. Next up, Delhi will travel to Bengaluru to play against Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have managed to win only one game so far in the competition.
