Jasprit Bumrah was back in action after the T20 World Cup 2024 win with the first Test against Bangladesh on September 19. He replicated his usual self and claimed five wickets in the first Test. He continued his assault and bagged six wickets in the second Test and India won the series by 2-0. By doing so, he overtook Ravichandran Ashwin to become the World's Number one bowler in Tests.

As Bumrah achieved this glorious feat, his colleague, Ashwin quickly responded via an Instagram story, that the pacer belongs to the coveted spot. Bumrah now sits atop with 870 points overtaking the veteran spinner, who has 869 points to his name. I came in to replace Harbhajan: Ashwin

Speaking of Ashwin, the all-rounder dazzled with bat and ball in the first Test in his hometown, Chennai. He scored a brilliant ton in the first innings and followed it up with a six-wicket haul in the second innings and was named the Player of the Match. He was clinical in the second Test too as the Chennai-born picked five wickets in the second Test.

“I can't really comment on what sort of impact I have had on this Test match. I had huge shoes to fill, I came in to replace Harbhajan, I used to replicate his action in junior cricket, he was an inspiration to me. Constantly people have doubted if I could deliver in red-ball as I came from IPL, lots of people have come and helped me,” Ashwin said after the first Test.
