Social media has taken over the cricketing world by storm, especially in the modern era. Cricketers have built strong fanbases on their socials purely on the back of their performances, and sometimes, their off-field flamboyance. However, former Indian captain and CSK wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni has revealed that playing good cricket should be the focus of the players, and then, the social media PR would take care of itself.
Dhoni revealed that his managers and social media team also advised him to build an imagery in the public, and make use of different platforms to promote his personal brand besides his cricket. Speaking about the topic on Euro Grip promotional show, the Ranchi-born expressed that he never believed in having a good PR, when he knew playing good cricket would do the same job for his brand.
“I have never been a big fan of social media. Throughout, I have had so many managers and all of them keep pushing. I started playing in 2004; Twitter (now X) got popular later on, after which Instagram came in. All the managers told me, ‘You should do some PR, build this and build that, I had the same answer that if you play good cricket, you don’t need PR," Dhoni said.
