Aakash Chopra 'surprised' after BCCI excludes Chahal from central contract

Former India opener Aakash Chopra stated that he was 'surprised' after Yuzvendra Chahal was excluded from the central contracts of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The 46-year-old went on to say that Chahal's ouster means the BCCI selection committee is looking in a different direction.

"I am a bit surprised that Chahal's name is not there. Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shikhar Dhawan - their names not being there, I can understand. Even Deepak Hooda for that matter. But Chahal's name not being there - what does that signify? It seems to indicate that they (BCCI) are looking in a different direction. This is a validation of the theory. He might have had a ray of hope, but it wasn't to be. His name is not there," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

The exclusion of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer has become a topic of discussion. Their ouster came after the BCCI stated that they wanted the centrally contracted to not put the IPL above domestic cricket, specifically the Ranji Trophy. Notably, Kishan and Iyer continued to miss the ongoing 2024 Ranji Trophy, unfortunately, it was against the BCCI's directive.
