Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricketer, reckons that India have every chance of turning over Australia in their upcoming Test series. Back in 2018-19, Virat Kohli became the first Indian skipper to win a Test series on Australian soil and he’ll be keen to replicate something similar even this time around. The opening Test gets underway on December 17 at the Adelaide Oval.

As per Ganguly, bearing in mind India’s past record in Adelaide, the visitors can get off to a flying start and push the Aussies on the backfoot from the outset. Sourav, who’s also the current BCCI president, heaped praises on fast bowler Navdeep Saini, who has come up the ranks in all forms of cricket over the last two years or so.

Moreover, Ganguly stated that Virat’s leadership skills and bowling changes will play a vital role in India’s campaign in the four-match series.

Play well and we’ll get on the right side of the series, says Sourav Ganguly

”Yes, it’s quality [Indian pace attack], there’s Navdeep Saini also who has improved enormously, enormously, than what we saw last year. Bowls at a good pace, good length, so India has the attack. It’s about Virat, and I’m saying this as a player, not as a BCCI President, it’s about Virat just working with them and getting them to be at their best.

“He has to decide as a captain, who he wants to attack with, who he wants to defend with. At which stage of the game he wants to attack with an Ashwin or a Bumrah or a Saini or a Sharma or a Jadeja. It’s his captaincy skill,” Ganguly told to India Today.

“India has won in Adelaide in 2003, in 2018 when they visited; so, India has a history of winning in Adelaide. The first Test match starts in Adelaide. So, play well and we’ll get on the right side of the series,” he added.

The first Test in Adelaide is a Day-Night affair and it’s also India’s second pink-ball Test after the one against Bangladesh in November 2019 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

In order to prepare for the contest, they will also be playing a warm-up game under the lights against Australia A at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Apart from the Tests on the tour, India will also play three ODIs and as many T20Is.
