Sourav Ganguly feels playing two day-night Tests in one series is ‘too much’

Cricket Australia had recently asked BCCI to allow the Indian team to play two day-night Test matches against them Down Under in 2020. As the board had given a go-ahead to the pink-ball Test against Bangladesh, the fans were waiting for BCCI’s reply to Australia.

Finally, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly broke his silence today as he mentioned that playing two day-night Tests in the same Test series is ‘too much’. As per Ganguly, the Indian board has heard nothing about the two day-night Tests’ proposal from Cricket Australia.

BCCI officials need to assess the conditions before approving two day-night Tests

Speaking to India Today at the India Today Enclave in Kolkata, Ganguly discussed the day-night Tests in Australia and said, “Whether India go to play two day-night Tests in Australia is not assured.”

According to him, the BCCI officials need to assess the conditions before approving two day-night Tests. Ganguly further added, “Two out of four would be a bit too much with the pink ball. We will assess it. I read it in the newspapers this morning. I haven’t heard anything from the Australian cricket board. We will deal with it as it comes.”

Cricket Australia’s delegates will meet Sourav Ganguly in January 2020 when Australia will visit India to play a one-day series. talking to ESPN Cricinfo, Cricket Australia’s Earl Eddings revealed that the negotiations have not started yet but, they will try their best to convince team India.

He expressed his delight over India’s historic win against Bangladesh and said: “Pleasingly, they’ve played their first day-night Test and won easily. Now they’ve got through that it might give them the right build-up to it over here. I’ve got no doubt they’ll consider playing one and maybe even more day-night Test matches. But that’s down the track to when we catch up with them in January.”

It will be interesting to see whether BCCI agrees to Cricket Australia’s proposal and gives a green signal to two pink-ball Test matches in Australia next year. Australia have a fantastic record in pink-ball Tests hence,  the Indian fans would want the Indian team to contend with them in this format.
