Sourav Ganguly has a savage response for Pakistan fans’ poor attendance in Manchester
Ganguly who is usually politically correct gave a rather sarcastic reply given it was an India-Pak moment.
The high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan in ICC World Cup 2019 proved to be an anti-climax as Sarfaraz Ahmed’s side ended a distant second-best. Batting first after being sent in by the Pakistan skipper, India scored 336 for 5 in 50 overs and then restricted the opponents to 212 for 6 in 40 overs when they were to score 302 as per the DLS Method. It was India’s seventh consecutive win over Pakistan at the World Cup since the two teams first met in 1992.
As the game started tilting towards India after Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul gave them a cautious start, the commentators started exploring the ambience around the ground. While venues hosting India-Pakistan games witness seas of blue and green, there was a unique exception in Manchester as the Indian fans outnumbered their Pakistani counterparts, Perhaps the supporters of Sarfaraz’s side could well anticipate what was coming in a game played between two unevenly matched sides.
Sourav Ganguly’s sarcastic remark
Jokes were also doing the rounds in connection with the game and not to say, almost all of them were in favour of India who were a far superior side on the day. Amidst all that, there was a conversation between former international captains Michael Clarke and Sourav Ganguly in the commentary box. Clarke was curious to know why there were fewer Pakistan fans at the Old Trafford and Ganguly who is usually politically correct gave a rather sarcastic reply.
Clarke said, “All I see is blue T-shirts and Indian flags all around the stands and not much green colour
To that, Ganguly responded saying, “Yeah! Costly tickets may be”
Pakistan economy not in great shape
Taking a look at the facts of the matter, Pakistan’s economy is not in great shape at the moment and the current prime minister, Imran Khan, has been seen making frequent tours abroad to get financial aid for his nation. Since assuming office last year, Imran has made more than one visit to China while Pakistan’s old ally Saudi Arabia has come up with monetary support for Islamabad. India, on the other hand, is fast growing through the ranks as one of the world’s fastest growing economy.
