One-third of the Cricket Advisory Committee, Sourav Ganguly, in a recent interview, listed out the essential qualities required to gain the coveted post of the Head Coach of India. Currently, stalwarts of the game such as Ravi Shastri, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Lalchand Rajput, and Dodda Ganesh are lined up for the post. Ganguly enlisted man-management and situation understanding skills as the criteria for selection of the post.

Ganguly, along with the other two greats by the name of Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, has been given the responsibility to chose the appropriate candidate for the Head Coach of the Indian team. They were responsible for the selection of former Indian coach Anil Kumble, who recently resigned from his position, citing ‘untenable’ relationships with some of the players.

Dada has avoided any controversy when it came to the entire Kumble-Kohli saga and continued to do so. He termed the whole incident as a thing of the past and stressed the importance of moving forward. He backed the CAC’s move to select Kumble as the coach as it brought results correspondingly.

He also clarified that whoever is suitable for the job, will be hired, whether it is Viru or Shastri. Shastri and Ganguly certainly are not renowned for being best of friends. There had been a war of words between the two after Kumble overhauled Shastri from his position in the Indian team. He was repetitive with the use of phrases like “Cricket is a captain’s game” and “man-management and situation understanding skills” in the briefing.

“Coach should be someone who can help and get the team going. An impressive presentation does not make you a good coach. Various things are needed to make a good coach — like man-management skill, situation-understanding skill.” said Sourav Ganguly according to ANM News.

“Maybe someone will be better skill-wise but will lack at man-management. You just have to move on. The Kohli-humble story was past and should be left behind. We will do whatever we think is good for the Indian cricket. We did the same in appointing Kumble as well. He also gave us results. We played in the final of the Champions Trophy. We will try and do our best,” continued the 44-year old.

Sehwag not someone from Midnapore district of West Bengal: Ganguly

Stating that there is nothing unusual about members in a team having differences, he stated,”India’s strength is spin. So we thought he would be able to help our spinners. We thought Anil would handle it properly, having played at the top level for so many years and becoming successful. This is normal in life when you are together somewhere there will be a difference of opinions. Even at work, you have differences. You just have to deal with it. ” On being asked about the controversial CV of Virender Sehwag which apparently had two lines in it, Ganguly rubbished all these claims.

“I’ve seen Sehwag’s CV and it’s not a two-liner one. He has a complete CV. But can you become the India coach by sending a CV? Coach is made on the ground. And he is Sehwag, a known personality. Everyone knows him and his cricketing skills. He’s not someone who has come from Midnapore district of West Bengal, So I don’t think it’s an issue. We will sit, talk and finalize. Difficult to take a name at the moment.” further augmented the CAB President. “Whoever is good will get the job, be it Shastri, Sehwag or someone else. We will take an opinion and decide” concluded Ganguly.
