Sourav Ganguly vouches for Gautam Gambhir's selection in the Indian team

It would be a dilemma for the Indian selectors as the southpaw had last wore the Indian jersey way back in the year 2013.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly wants to see Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir’s name in the flight to England for the Champions Trophy in June. He believes that Gambhir has drastically improved his form over the years and it is the best case now for the opener to make his comeback into the team.

Gambhir is the only batsman in the KKR team apart from Robin Uthappa to light up the IPL. The southpaw has scored over 400 runs in 11 matches scoring four fifties thus far. Only David Warner from the Sunrisers Hyderabad has scored more runs than the southpaw in the 10th edition of the IPL.

“The form which he is at the moment, it won’t be a bad idea either to include him (Gambhir) in the Champions Trophy squad. Since KL Rahul is injured, the selectors can think about giving Gambhir an opportunity,” Said Ganguly as per the quotes on XtraTime.

Even the likes of Ravi Shastri had echoed the voice of the Gambhir fans for his selection to the Indian team after the injury to the opener KL Rahul.

In his column for the Times of India, the former Indian all-rounder wrote “Gautam Gambhir has so far been the most consistent Indian opener in this IPL. His batting is still smooth and layered, and whenever his bat makes a contact with the ball, there is a run. It’s another matter he could’ve just played as captain and still be worth his weight in gold. Indeed, he has been superb as a leader of his men.”

It would be a dilemma for the Indian selectors as the southpaw had last wore the coloured Indian jersey way back in the year 2013 when England visited India where he was dismissed for 24 runs. But with consistent scores like this going into the last leg of the tournament, the selectors would surely not want to miss on the opportunity to cash in on the southpaw’s form.
