Indian team has been in an absolutely incredible and staggering form recently in limited-overs cricket having claimed their maiden ODI series win in South Africa in a domineering fashion. They defeated the Proteas 5-1 in the recently concluded six-match ODI series and now will be hoping to claim another series victory when they will be meeting the hosts in the final T20I match of the series. After a stunning knock by Manish Pandey in the second match, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly wants the team to invest some more time in young players such as Pandey and all-rounder Hardik Pandya, to get great returns from them in the future.

In the past games, India have tried a number of players in the middle-order category in the limited-overs format and each one of them has failed to pile up consistent performances while batting on those positions. The Men in Blue have awarded chances to players like Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Pandya, Pandey, Shreyas Iyer and many others who have failed to grab the granted opportunity and to handle the game in pressure situations.

In the recent ODI series, they even shifted Ajinkya Rahane from the third opener’s slot back to the No. 4 as he has the ability to take the crease in the middle order in overseas conditions. But Rahane could not live up to the high expectations of the team as he notched up a single 50-plus score in the six-match series.

Pandey, Pandya and the others need some time

Ganguly stated that the Indian team needs to grant some more big opportunities for young talents who are around now and the others who are coming along. Even the likes of greats of Indian cricket Virender Sehwag and the veteran offie Harbhajan Singh also took their time to be successful and well-equipped in the team.

“We have Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya and others have come in to play in our Indian side. We have to give them time to become the likes of Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh. Sehwag and Harbhajan also developed over a period of time. Our young players will also do so,” said Ganguly as quoted by TOI.
