South Africa may sledge David Warner again: Brad Hogg
The southpaw had an unfortunate altercation with Quinton de Kock in the first Test match in Durban.
Australia has comprehensively humbled South Africa in the opening Test at the Kingsmead in Durban. However, more than the cricketing aspects, it’s the heated altercation between Quinton de Kock and David Warner which has hogged the headlines. The Proteas batsman is alleged to have hurled expletives about Candice Warner, David Warner’s wife following AB de Villiers run-out. Thereafter, things took an ugly turn when both cricketers barged into each other inside the dressing room.
David Warner- A sweet spot
However, Brad Hogg, the former Australia batsman, has recently come out in support of the Australian cricketer. “As far as I’m concerned you don’t say anything about someone’s family: it’s all about one-on-one, about that particular person or how they’re playing in the middle. To be frank, South Africa have found a little sweet spot with David Warner, Hogg was quoted as saying by Fox Sports News’ Bill and Boz in a recent media interaction.
The chinaman bowler also feared that the Proteas might target Warner’s wife in the upcoming games as well. “I think they’ll be trying to nag him in the next three Test matches about his wife now or they’ll try and say something concerning Candice in the next three Test matches, which is slightly getting under David Warner’s skin. They’ve opened up a can of worms here,” Hogg iterated.
However, Hogg was pretty surprised by Quinton de Kock’s reaction. He said that the Proteas wicket-keeper batsman generally employs a calm and collected approach, and Hogg hardly expected such behavior from de Kock. The second Test between the two nations begins on March 9 at Port Elizabeth and it won’t be bewildering if there are further face-offs between the players.
Cricket is a gentleman’s game, and the sport doesn’t require unwanted incidents which mar and tarnish the sanctity of the game. For the time being, it will be interesting see how the relationship between Warner and de Kock pans out as the series progresses.
