South Africa name squad for white-ball tour of Australia
Australia will host the Proteas for 3 ODIs and a lone T20I.
South Africa have named their squad for the white-ball tour of Australia, with Faf du Plessis all set to lead the Proteas. They are scheduled to tour Australia in October and November this year to play three ODIs and a one-off T20I. Ahead of the ODI series, a 50-over practice match is scheduled to be played at the Manuka Oval in Canberra as well. In April 2018, it was also confirmed that the Carrara Stadium would host its first ever international cricket match.
The series gets underway on November 4 with the first ODI taking place at Perth. Adelaide and Hobart will host the second the third ODIs respectively, while the Carrara Stadium at the Gold Coast will be the stage for the only T20I on November 17. Close on the heels of this limited-overs series will be India’s lengthy tour of Australia which kicks off on November 21.
South Africa’s 15-man squad will be captained by Faf du Plessis, and will also have experienced cricketers such Imran Tahir and Dale Steyn. The Proteas pace attack looks as robust as ever with the likes of Steyn, Rabada, Ngidi and Morris all available to play. At the top of the order, they’ll have the services of Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Reeza Hendricks and skipper du Plessis. Farhan Behardien and David Miller make up the middle order, and Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi will take care of the spin department.
Duminy and Amla ruled out
The only setbacks for South Africa are that both Hashim Amla and JP Duminy have been sidelined from the tour. Cricket South Africa announced in a statement on Tuesday that Duminy will undergo surgery on his right shoulder after aggravating an old injury during a series against Zimbabwe which ended last weekend. Coach Ottis Gibson had revealed earlier that Amla would also miss the tour of Australia.
Duminy is set to miss the Mzansi Super League, which begins on November 15. He had been named as the marquee player for the Cape Town Blitz team. Team manager and doctor Mohammed Moosajee said it was not possible at this stage to estimate how long Duminy would be out of action.
