South Africa squad announced for limited-overs series against West Indies; Dane van Niekerk returns

The West Indies Women and the South African Women will collide against each other in a limited-overs series that will begin on 31st August 2021. The series will consist of 3 T20Is and 5 ODIs.

And, the South African side has received a boost ahead of the series as veteran cricketer Dane van Niekerk will make a return to the South African side and lead the Proteas in their limited-overs challenge against the ‘Women in Maroon’.

Hilton Moreen, the Head Coach of the South African side, stated that a few South African players have been making good progress and have provided a good account of themselves at the international level.

Moreen added that the Proteas are looking forward to these players taking part in the series against the West Indies after their time away from the game.

“A few of our players have been making solid progress in their return from injuries and we are glad to see them giving a good account of themselves in international tournaments. We look forward to them taking part in this series after some time away from the national set-up,” stated Hilton Moreen as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

South African Women experienced a successful run in their previous limited-overs series against India

The South African side experienced an excellent run in their previous limited-overs series against India that took place in the month of March this year. While they thrashed the Indian side by a margin of 4-1 in the ODI series, they beat the ‘Women in Blue’ in the three-match T20I series as well, by a margin of 2-1.

And, the return of Dane van Niekerk for the series against the West Indies will augur well for the Proteas. Niekerk has featured in 102 ODIs and 83 T20Is for South Africa at the international level. While she has scored 2115 runs in the ODI format of the game, she has plundered 1839 runs in T20I cricket as well.
