South Africa tour will test Virat Kohli's true captaincy skills: Bishan Singh Bedi

Spin legend Bishen Singh Bedi believes Indian skipper Virat Kohli is yet to face real competition and the upcoming tour of South Africa will test his batting as well as captaincy skills. In a rare analogy, Bedi praised Indian shuttler PV Sindhu for her continued success against top players at the world level. On the contrary, he believes Kohli would be “struggling” to achieve what the Olympic medallist shuttler has attained over the years.

The 71-year-old veteran opined that Kohli will now face his real competition in the upcoming tour of South Africa, the former Indian captain was quoted saying, “Sindhu has achieved a lot over the years and I dare Virat Kohli would be struggling.”

“She has been competing with the best of the world, but Kohli will now be competing with the best in the world in South Africa. The tour of South Africa will be a test for Kohli,” added Bedi according to quotes on TOI.

India never won a Test series in South Africa

The upcoming tour of South Africa will be a challenging one as the Indian team has never succeeded in winning a Test series in the rainbow nation. Coming off a comprehensive series victory against Sri Lanka across every format, the Men in Blue will aim to carry forward the momentum and repeat the success in the foreign soil as well.

However, the hosts appeared to be struggling in pace-friendly conditions in Kolkata and Dharamsala. The stint was enough for cricket pundits to raise eyebrows over India’s readiness to play in foreign conditions in the new year, which will see them touring South Africa, England, and Australia.

The Indian team has already reached Cape Town. However, they’ll go into the first Test, without playing any practice games in the Protea conditions.  The opening match between the sides will be played in Newlands, Cape Town from January 5, 2018.
