South Africa vs India, 3rd Test, Day 2 Stats Review: Jasprit Bumrah's five-fer puts India on command

India’s spearhead Jasprit Bumrah took a five-wicket haul and recorded his fourth-best figures in Tests to bowl South Africa out for 210 in the first innings of the third and final Test at Newlands in Cape Town. Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami both snared two wickets each to hand India a slender lead of just 13 runs.

For the Proteas, opener Aiden Markram’s poor form in the series continued as he became Bumrah’s first victim in the morning when he got out for just eight runs. Keegan Petersen achieved his best Test score of 72 as he was the only half-centurion and silver lining for South Africa on the second day. Rassie van der Dussen and Temba Bavuma both got slight starts but couldn’t go on and steady the South African innings as the hosts were troubled by the Indian pace battery.

Openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal both fell cheaply in the second innings for ten and seven runs respectively. Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli both remained not out at Stump’s with India’s score at 57/2. With a lead of 70 runs, the unbeaten duo would like to add more runs on the third day to take the visitors in a comfortable and commanding position. The Proteas will be looking to get these two wickets as early as possible with out-of-form batters Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant set to follow next.
