South Africa vs India: Indian flag hoisted upside down at Newlands
The same mistake was committed on the eve of the first Test match at the same venue.
The third One-Day International between India and South Africa is about to get underway in Cape Town at Newlands on Wednesday. While the visitors are on a winning spree against the home side in the limited overs cricket, they lost the hard-fought Test series by 2-1. However, a controversy is likely to crop up after the Indian flag has been hoisted upside down at the Stadium ahead of the commencement of the crucial match.
The organisers had made the same mistake on the eve of the first Test match of the three-match series at the same venue. It remains to be seen if they realise the blunder before the game as both the teams line up for the National Anthems before the start of the match.
The sports journalist, Debasis Sen, pointed out the blunder on his official Twitter handle and hoped that the tricolour is hoisted correctly ahead of the game. His Twitter message read, “It happened on the eve of the first test match at Newlands. And now yet again it happened on the eve of the third ODI between #INDvSA at the same venue. Hope the tricolour is hoisted correctly before the match gets underway.”
India comfortably placed
Amidst the blunder, Team India has been excellently placed in the ongoing ODI series. They’ve won both the opening matches quiet comfortably and are expected to trump the injury-hit South Africa in Cape Town as well. The wrist-spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have wreaked havoc in the opposition camp and have picked 13 wickets out of the 20 to fall. The batsmen too have been clinical with the skipper Virat Kohli leading from the front. Ajinkya Rahane’s form has also more or less solved the number 4 conundrum.
They would love to continue in the same vein and win their first ever series in the coloured clothing. Soon after the ODI rubber, both the teams will clash in the three-match T20I series.
