South Africa vs Pakistan: ICC investigating Sarfaraz Ahmed's racial remark incident
South Africa hasn't lodged any complaint against him.
South Africa won the second ODI against Pakistan at the Kingsmead in Durban to level the series on Tuesday. But more than the victory, Sarfaraz Ahmed’s racial comments against Andile Phehlukwayo are the talk of the town at the moment. He termed the Proteas all-rounder ‘black’ in his comments during the second innings of the game and the remarks were caught in the stump-mic.
“Abey kaale, teri ammi aaj kahaan baitheen hain? Kya parwa ke aaye hai aaj?” (which translates to: Hey black guy, where’s your mother sitting today? What (prayer) have you got her to say for you today?”) the Pakistan captain was heard as saying during the 38th over of the South African chase. Ever since the video of the same has gone viral, Sarfaraz is being lashed out on the social media and the fans are calling for his ban.
According to the reports in South African website Independent Online (IOL), the ICC and match officials have noted the unwanted incident and have started the investigation. Moreover, the South African team manager confirmed that they didn’t register any complaint against the visiting skipper over the matter but the match referee Ranjan Madugale has opened up the investigation and a few players will be interviewed before giving the verdict.
4 to 8 suspensions points if found guilty
Sarfaraz Ahmed could face severe disciplinary actions if he is found guilty in this incident according to the ICC laws. Four to eight suspension points will be imposed on him and in that case, the Pakistan captain will face the ban of four ODIs/T20Is or two Tests (for four suspension points) whichever comes first.
He will straightaway be ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against South Africa then will also miss the first of the three-match T20I series. Having said that, it also remains to be seen when the verdict on the matter will come out as the third ODI is set to be played on Friday.
