South Africa vs Sri Lanka: Hashim Amla returns for final two ODIs

As South Africa has announced its squad for a couple of final One Day International matches against Sri Lanka, Hashim Amla is set to make a return to the national side. South Africa, the hosts move into the fourth ODI as series winners with a 3-0 lead in the five-match series. The ever so experienced might play against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI at Port Elizabeth.

The 15-man squad for the final two ODI matches also features the veteran batsmen Aiden Markram and JP Duminy. While Duminy played his last international game in October 2018, he was mostly away due to injury that was followed by shoulder surgery. After gaining fitness he made a successful comeback for the Cape Cobras.

Markram has been in tremendous form in the domestic scene. He has scored back-to-back centuries for the Titans and helped his franchise reach the top spot in the One-Day Cup. The 24-year-old opener last played an ODI game back in November last year when the Proteas toured Australia.

A power-packed squad

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis commented about the big gap between domestic and international cricket when he was asked about possible changes to the Test squad right before the ODI series. Back then the domestic scene was having a 4-Day Franchise Series. So it is difficult to discern whether the captain and management are considering Markram for the upcoming World Cup, scheduled to start on May 30.

While Aiden Markram, JP Duminy, and Hashim Amla have marked their return, Reeza Hendricks and Wiaan Mulder were dropped out of the squad.
