South Africa Women’s cricketer Lizelle Lee’s personal life has been affected due the coronavirus pandemic as her wedding has been put to hold. The COVID-19 has led to over 1,400 cases in South Africa with five people losing their lives, though 31 have already recovered. Lee and her fiancé Tanja Cronje were set to enter the wedlock on Friday, April 10, but that won’t be possible as of now.

The couple has been together for more than four and half years. Currently South Africa is on a complete 21-day lockdown and their previous wedding day will be the 15th day. The 28-year-old wicketkeeper is currently at her parent’s place in the farming town of Ermelo, located in the Mpumalanga province. She has been completing a 2000-piece puzzle to keep herself busy.

As per India Today, this is the longest time Lee has spent at home in the last three years. Had the novel virus not wreaked havoc, she would have been completing a home series against Australia, consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is. Going by the data from the John Hopkins University, about 9,00,000 people have fallen prey to the virus, which has taken the lives of above 44,000.

Lizelle Lee’s impressive T20 World Cup

Lee was recently a part of the national team in the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The right-hander turned out to be their leading run-scorer in the tournament, having scored 119 runs in four matches at an average of 29.75. Her top score of 101 off 60 came against Thailand at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. South Africa won the game, comfortably, by as many as 113 runs.

Despite her best efforts, her team couldn’t qualify for the final. They lost to Australia in the semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Rain pruned the match down and Lee’s side was unable to chase down the revised target. While chasing 98, their innings halted at 92 for the loss of five wickets.

In that game, Lee could only manage to score 10 runs before getting out to left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux. In 82 ODIs and 74 T20Is, Lee has scored 2,602 and 1,664 runs with three centuries and 29 half-centuries.
