Whereas his record in T20 cricket is 6,106 runs in 252 matches; which makes him the highest run-scorer for the Proteas in the shortest format of the game. Duminy will be playing his last of One-Day International cricket during the World Cup in England.

The 35-year-old had already cleared his intentions and after the recent announcement will only continue to participate in T20 cricket. Where he has already existing commitments with the South African team and CSA’s Mzansi Super League.

Duminy’s international career

In his 19-year career, Duminy has played 46 Tests, 194 ODIs and 81 T20Is for the Proteas. His contribution with the bat has been 2103, 5047 and 1934 runs in respective formats. A part-time off-break bowler JPD also picked up a total of 131 wickets in international cricket.

Duminy has been struggling with injuries of late and was forced to stay away from the action for a while and thus took the call on his ODI and domestic career.

He will want to conclude his fruitful ODI career on a high with the World Cup. The Proteas team under Faf du Plessis has more than a point to prove this time. They’ve always been considered top contenders but never quite delivered the results in a mega event.

This time around, they start the campaign against a strong Indian team led by Virat Kohli. Proteas will play nine matches in the Round Robin Stage against all the participating team, which gives them a great chance of advancing into the knockouts as well.
