Sreesanth dreams of making a comeback
The 34-year old has played 27 Test matches for India and was part of the 2007 & 2011 World Cup wins.
Monday turned out to be an eventful day for Indian fast bowler Sreesanth, who has been off the field for the last four years, following the 2013 IPL match-fixing scandal. The Kerala High Court ordered the BCCI to lift the life ban on Sreesanth, giving the 34-year old another shot at representing his state and country.
The 2011 World Cup winner, Sreesanth said that he feels his body is fit and even though he is 34, he has still got 6-7 years of cricket left in him. He also sighted the examples of Misbah-ul-Haq and India’s master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who played at the highest level for a long time.
Wants to follow the path of legends
“I am only 34. The likes of Misbah (ul-Haq), Younis Khan, Sachin (Tendulkar) paaji played or are playing till when they are close to 40. They are the motivation for me. I want to make sure that I keep myself fit and start performing” Sreesanth said.
The temperamental cricketer knows the bid for a national call up is quite high and the competition is going to be tough, he also aspires to guide his state side Kerala to a Ranji victory. “What I know is that they still have some games left in the Scottish league. Hopefully, I can play at least one match there. I have two goals left,” he said, adding, “But a more realistic goal would be to win Ranji Trophy for Kerala. Now we have a lot of talented cricketers around. I can pass on my experience to them and it would be great playing in the whites for my state,” he added.
With Pakistan’s Mohammed Amir making a fairy-tale comeback into international cricket, Sreesanth, who represented India in 27 Test matches and 53 ODI’s, is very optimistic about his chances of getting back in the competitive circuit, and it will be interesting to see how he goes about things, considering the road will be long for the fast bowler.
