SRH Retained Players: Here is the complete list of Retained Players by SRH For IPL 2022
SRH endured a horrendous campaign in IPL 2021.
It’s November 30 and the retention lists of all eight existing Indian Premier League (IPL) teams are out! With a mega auction taking place ahead of IPL 2022, all sides were allowed to retain a maximum of just four players, out of which only two can be foreigners. While several sides used their retention cards to retain prominent players, some showcased faith on their youngsters.
Sunrisers Hyderabad belongs to the latter category. Skipper Kane Williamson is the side’s only retention among capped players and he’s set to get a sum of INR 14 crore in the upcoming season. Pacer Umran Malik and hard-hitter Abdul Samad are the side’s other two retentions. With the duo being uncapped, they will get INR 4 crore apiece as season salary. For the unversed, SRH endured a horrendous campaign in the 2021 edition of the competition. The side struggled to find their best combination throughout the competition and lost one game after another.
SRH didn’t retain Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan
In fact, they finished the league stage at the bottom-ranked team with just three wins in 14 games. Notably, their campaign was also marred with massive controversy. David Warner, the only player to win the orange cap thrice, was sacked as SRH’s captain with Kane Williamson take over the reins. The Australian dasher was even dropped from the playing XI which irked fans and experts even further.
The controversial move didn’t work by any means as the 2016-edition champions never looked on track. As many loopholes were discovered in their side, the team owners have decided to go for a revamp. It has to be noted that the side has also released prominent names like Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
While Bhuvneshwar’s poor form and injury issues might be a reason behind his axing, Rashid reportedly didn’t want to be the side’s second retention. Notably, the second retention of a team would get INR 10 crore, INR 4 crore less than the first-retained player. As per reports, Rashid wanted to be the side’s first retention. Hence, this could be a reason why the talismanic bowler wasn’t retained.
Meanwhile, SRH now have a total of INR 67 crore in their salary purse and it would be interesting to see how they’ll build their squad. Notably, Rashid isn’t likely to land in the auction pool as the two new franchises – based in Lucknow and Ahmedabad respectively – can pick a maximum of three players from the non-retained players ahead of the bidding event.
With Rashid arguably being world’s best T20 bowler at the moment, one of the two franchises are pretty certain to get him on board.
