The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) team selection committee on May 11 (Wednesday) announced a 15-member squad for their women’s tour of Pakistan. It must be noted that the committee has also named five additional players as standbys in case of any injuries or emergencies.
It may be noted that the two Asian teams will play three international T20Is, before participating in an equal number of 50-over matches. The games will be played between May 24 and June 5 in Karachi. Giving more information about the tour, the three 50-over matches will form a part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 in which the Women in Green finished fifth during the last cycle, ahead of the White Ferns New Zealand, West Indies, and Sri Lanka.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka finished last in the previous cycle and will want to give a much better performance in the upcoming schedule. Coming back to the tour, all matches in the series will be played at Karachi’s Southend Club. This will be Pakistan’s first international assignment at the venue since they hosted the West Indies for three T20Is back in December 2018.
Chamari Athapaththu was named as Sri Lanka captain for the tour
Shedding light on the Sri Lanka squad for the tour of Pakistan, batter Chamari Athapaththu, who has been in decent form for the Falcons in the ongoing FairBreak Invitational T20 tournament, will lead the side. Senior left-arm seamer Udeshika Prabodhani has also been included in the squad and is the only other player from Sri Lanka participating in the FairBreak Invitational T20 tournament. The remaining squad has been named after considering the Women’s Inter-Club Division domestic 50-over tournament, which concluded in April.
