The eight edition of ICC Champions Trophy will commence from 1st of June this year. Sri Lanka has won it once before in 2002, but it was shared equally with India. Talking about complete ownership, they are yet to get a taste of it. Just before the start of the Champions Trophy 2017, they suffered a humiliating defeat against Scotland in the warm-up match. It was the first victory for Associates Scotland against a Test playing nation.

Sri Lanka locked horns against Scotland at the Kent Cricket Ground in Beckenham. Batting first, Lanka scored a formidable 288. Dinesh Chandimal and Chamara Kapugedara batted well for the Lankans. But 289 was too easy a target to chase for Kyle Coetzer and Matthew Cross. They formed a brilliant 201-run partnership as both the openers went on to score centuries. Coetzer scored 118 runs in just 84 deliveries.

This embarrassing defeat at the hands of a non-test playing nation might dampen the confidence in Sri Lanka’s dressing room. But before going into the main phase of the Champions Trophy, they will have 2 more chances to test their preparation. They will take on the mighty Aussies on 26th May at The Oval in London. On 30th May, they will face New Zealand At Edgbaston, Birmingham.

But keeping aside all the worries, the fans of Sri Lanka cricket team have something to cheer about. Angelo Mathews and his boys will now be seen in a new jersey in the Champions Trophy 2017. Keeping the colour scheme same, the designing of the current jersey might seem better than the previous one.

The Lankan team is placed in Group A, alongside defending champions India, Sri Lanka and South Africa. They will begin their campaign against the Proteas on 3rd June.

Here is Sri Lanka’s squad for Champions Trophy 2017

Angelo Mathews (C), Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Upul Tharanga, Dinesh Chandimal, Nuwan Pradeep, Asela Gunaratne, Chamara Kapugedera, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Seekkuge Prasanna, Lakshan Sandakan, Suranga Lakmal, Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara
