Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has made a recruitment in the form of Rob Chave as their Physical Preparation Manager. Chave has previously served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Sussex team in County Cricket since October 2015. His job encompassed various roles, with a particular focus on women’s cricket, the Aldridge Cricket Academy and the Elite Development Group. Sussex Cricket recently issued a congratulatory message for him, which also consisted details about his career.

With this appointment, Chave joined the elite list of the county team’s coaches who’ve been bestowed with international coaching positions. He will be relinquishing his current post on Friday 8th September, before taking up his new role in Colombo on Sunday 17th September. He’s completed his graduation in the Sport and Exercise Science Masters programme at Portsmouth University and has a background in tennis.

Rob Chave reacts to his new appointment

“I have thoroughly enjoyed and highly valued my two years across both Sussex Cricket and the Aldridge Cricket Academy. It has been a pleasure to work with a coaching unit under Mark Davis, who has encouraged us to be creative, thoughtful and to challenge each other on a daily basis,” claimed Rob Chave according to ESPN Cricinfo.

“I have been lucky to be able to develop a programme with Jon Lewis and Carl Hopkinson to progress our young fast bowlers and batters over the past two years, and my belief is that the success of this programme will become obvious over the coming seasons at Sussex Cricket. As well as this, it has been important to me to be able to contribute to the progression of the professional squad; the team under Luke Wright and Ben Brown have been brilliant to be around and to work with, and I have no doubt things will only continue to improve,” he added.

Reflecting on the experience he has garnered, Chave concluded by saying, “I’d like to thank all the staff at Sussex Cricket and Aldridge Cricket Academy for giving me the opportunity to be involved and allowing me to develop over the past two seasons. Without it, I would not be able to be in such a place to accept such a fantastic role with Sri Lanka Cricket. I have lots of fond memories to take with me.”
