Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is set to claim compensation from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for the mistake in Kusal Perera’s case. Perera was banned for four years after he was wrongly accused of doping charges. This resulted in him getting suspended during Sri-Lanka’s Tour of New Zealand. He also missed out the World T20 in 2016.

“The ICC committee asked for a report and we made a submission on his behalf to claim all his costs incurred including legal and medical in order to prove his innocence, ” SLC chairman Thilanga Sumathipala said on Wednesday.

Later on, the ICC found that there was a technical error and Perera made his way back to the squad in the ongoing series against England.

As per the reports from Deccan Chronicle, “Perera has incurred a cost of more than 500,000 pounds. That was towards administrative legal costs for his case and the entire sum will be compensated.” stated one of the officials of the ICC during their on-going annual meet in Edinburgh, Scotland.

However, Thilanga Sumathipala said that the amount will be determined after Perera returns from England tour on Friday. “The ICC and Sri Lanka are together on this,” Sumathipala said. He added that WADA will be asked to pay compensation by the ICC. “This has never happened before in the history of world cricket,” Sumathipala added.

“I had not done anything wrong, but I went through tremendous mental stress,” said Kusal back in May.

Perera was tested positive after the lab test and that was overturned, when the player appealed saying the lab has erred. He was cleared to play in May 2016. But it was too late for him as he missed the World T20 in India. He eventually made his way into the Test squad as a late replacement in the injury-hit Sri Lanka team.
