There have been many instances when we have seen animals or birds wandering around on the ground while the match is going on. In Australia, we often see birds on the field while the play is going on. Once during an IPL 2009 match in Cape Town, a dog was seen wandering around in the ground. Something similar happened during the second Test between Sri Lanka and England in Galle on Sunday.

As Sri Lanka was trying to bowl England in their first innings, the cameraman during the match caught a creature on the boundary lines, casually roaming around. International Cricket Council’s Twitter page also uploaded a picture of this moment. The creature which was spotted was a monitor lizard.

ICC uploaded the tweet on Sunday night. The tweet joked about how Sri Lanka had fielded an extra player on the field and the English team was going to complain over this. A subtle pun was also included in the tweet, as it said that the complaint was being ‘monitored’ by ICC. The tweet caption of the tweet read, “The ICC is reviewing reports that Sri Lanka used an extra fielder against England in Galle today. The situation will be ‘monitored’.”

The second Test in Galle is on the balance after Joe Root’s special knock 186

England is leading the two-match Test series currently having won the first match by seven wickets. Sri Lanka made 381 in the first innings on the back of a century by Angelo Mathews. In reply, England could make only 344, conceding a lead of 37 runs to the home side. Skipper Joe Root scored another huge century and his knock of 186 runs kept the innings together. Lasith Embuldeniya picked up seven wickets in the first innings.

At the time of writing this article, Sri Lanka was at the score of 66 for 5 in their second innings, with a lead of 103 runs. The match is still in the balance as the pitch will get worse for batting as we move along.
