Sri Lanka vs England: SLC announces Kusal Perera's replacement for the ODI series
The series has been affected by rain so far.
Sri Lanka were dealt with a major blow ahead of the third ODI against England as Kusal Perera was ruled out the series due to the hamstring injury. While the teams are waiting for the game to begin in Pallekele, SLC has announced that Kusal Mendis will replace Perera in the squad for the remainder of the series. He will most likely join the team for the last two matches now.
Mendis had an extremely poor Asia Cup after which he was dropped. But the constant injury issues in the team has paved the way for him to make a comeback. He failed to get off the mark in both the matches his team during the multi-nation tournament and was axed for the same reason. He has a great chance to make amends now with a solid performance. However, for that to happen the rain has to stop as even the next match is in Pallekele itself where it is pelting down at the moment.
Former Sri Lankan cricketer turned commentator Roshan Abeysinghe revealed the news on his official Twitter handle.
Sri Lanka’s woes in ODIs
Sri Lanka is struggling immensely at the moment in all the forms of the game. But with the World Cup coming up, they will need a quick solution to their woes. Dropping Angelo Mathews, who led the team in the Asia Cup, giving fitness reasons, also hasn’t worked for them so far. The ongoing England series was a great chance for them to get back their mojo.
But the rain gods haven’t abated and all the three matches have been affected. While the second match concluded with the DLS method, the first one could only last 15 overs. The third encounter is yet to begin and things are looking to bleak in Pallekele with the clouds hovering over the Stadium.
