Before the start of today’s match, Ajinkya Rahane, despite being in good knick, did not have a three figure score from the past 18 innings and 10 Tests. The last notable innings was back in October against the Kiwis at the Holkar Stadium, Indore, where he smashed 188 along with skipper Kohli. After that, Rahane could not manage to reach the three figure mark, even though he played crucial knocks in the interim. Jinx found the velvet touch back in the Caribbean, where he was adjudged as the man of the series for piling on runs whenever he took a guard at the crease.

One had a feeling he missed out at Galle as he hoped to end the dry spell with a scintillating century before he nicked one to the keeper on 57. Today, he looked determined to remain at the crease and continue his assault on the bowlers as he remained unbeaten on 103 off just 168 balls at a strike rate of 61, smashing 12 scintillating boundaries and taking India in a spot of dominance.
