Dream start for Karunaratne as the Test captain
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided to drop Dinesh Chandimal from the Test side for the recently concluded Test series against South Africa. Thus, in his absence, Karunaratne was handed over the responsibilities of leading the side in the Rainbow Nation.
Dimuth Karunaratne had a dream start to his captaincy career as the team won both the Test matches under his leadership. Sri Lanka became only the third country to win a Test series in South Africa since their re-admission and scripted history. For his scintillating batting, Kusal Perera was the ‘Player of the Series’.
