Standing next to Virat Kohli at the toss will be a special occasion for anyone: Kyle Coetzer

Scotland skipper Kyle Coetzer is keenly looking forward to facing India at the T20 World Cup. He admitted that standing next to Virat Kohli will be a “special occasion”. Coetzer also termed the encounter to be their team’s biggest at the mega-event.

“That game is going to be the biggest (for us at the T20 World Cup), if not the biggest that Scotland has ever played. Standing next to Virat at the toss will be a special occasion for anyone, not just myself. He is an idol of the game, a stylish man the way he scores his runs,” Coetzer was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

“I was fortunate enough to bump into him in the lift earlier today. I have had occasions in the past to spend some time with him and have a chat. But Virat Kohli is someone I haven’t had any opportunity to have a conversation with. Look, we want to play hard, trying to push India as hard as we possibly can on the day. But we have to be realistic.”

Scotland made people take notice of them during the qualifiers when they caused an upset as early as the opening day of the tournament by defeating Bangladesh. They went on to defeat Papua New Guinea and Oman to gain entry into the Super12s. Having done well with regards to pushing for full-time ICC membership, Scotland still do not have a fully professional unit at their disposal.

Coetzer, a contracted player, revealed about his other professions. Notably, he had earlier revealed how the hero of Scotland’s victory over Bangladesh, Chris Greaves, was delivering parcels for Amazon.

“I’m one of those with a contract, but I have to do two other jobs. All my jobs are involved in cricket, coaching at Durham and also various minor counties, and I run a local club as well. What I tell you, we need to find more money for the guys to be solely focused on cricket. It’s so important for us (Scotland cricket) is to find extra funding. We need to find some sponsors.” Coetzer added.

After an inspirational hat-trick of wins in the qualifiers, Scotland have slipped to defeats in a row as they were thrashed by 130 runs against Afghanistan before Namibia defeated them by four wickets.
