Team Bangladesh have received a major blow ahead of their upcoming international assignment. Bangladesh is set to play against Afghanistan in Dehradun in a 3-match T20I series. The short series has already garnered a lot of attention. And now, ahead of the series, ace Bangladeshi bowler, Mustafizur Rahman, has been ruled out of the series. Mustafizur has been a key player in the Bangladeshi lineup for almost two years now.
As per the recent reports in Cricbuzz, one of the officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed the news about Mustafizur’s injury. He revealed that Mustafizur Rahman will be unavailable for the series. The team schedule of Bangladesh will see the visitors travel to India on May 29, 2018.
The first of the three T20Is will be played on June 3. The next two matches will be played on June 5 and June 7. Reportedly, Mustafizur suffered a toe injury during the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2018. The young speedster was plying his trade for his new franchise, Mumbai Indians, in the tournament this year. He did not have a very good tournament and looked largely out of form this season. He played only 7 matches for the team.
Three weeks recovery time
The BCB physician, Debashish Chowdhury, remarked that the pace bowler will take at least two to three weeks to recover from the injury and get back to full fitness. “Mustafizur damaged the thumb on his left leg during IPL and would not be travelling with the team,” Chowdhury told New Age. The team management are not taking the matters lightly and hence, took the x-ray tests recently to validate the intensity of the injury.
A few more tests are scheduled to take place on May 29. It is worth noting that the Bangladesh coach, Courtney Walsh, had spoken about the injury to Mustafizur Rahman at the pre-series presser. He, however, had sounded optimistic about the pacer’s return to fitness in time for the series.
