Star India lands rights to telecast IND v WI T20 series
Star India Pvt. Ltd. Has been awarded the rights to telecast the upcoming IND v WI T20 series that will take place in Florida later this year. The Star network, who also happens to be the sponsor of the Indian team, has secured the broadcasting rights for the series following an elaborate bidding process.
The subsequent announcement was made by the joint secretary of the Board, Mr. Ajay Shirke. Star India broadcasts the home matches of Indian cricket and is reported to have bargained the deal for INR 34.20 crores for the two matches to be played in Florida.
The Central Broward Regional Park and Stadium in Lauderhill is set to host its first T20 international since 2014. Only four T20Is have been played at this venue with New Zealand featuring in all four matches. The West Indies, however, have won their last two matches at this venue. The venue also hosted a bevy of six matches affiliated with the Caribbean Premier League.
The series will consist of two T20 internationals, both to be played at the same venue. The series will kick-off shortly after the conclusion of the ongoing Test series between India and the West Indies.

As per the reports of Cricbuzz, BCCI president Ajay Shirke said, “I am pleased to announce that Star India will be the official broadcaster. It will ensure the BCCI is able to guarantee maximum exposure and further increase the visibility of this new initiative.”
Shirke also added that the Board was pleased with the work carried out by Star in terms of the partnership with the BCCI. “Star India has been an excellent partner for the BCCI. They have a deep understanding of the game of cricket, and what it means to the nation. We are pleased to extend our association with them. This agreement also reflects our strategy to develop new markets and fan following.”
