Statistical Analysis: MS Dhoni vs Indian wicketkeepers in International cricket
In his 13-year career, Dhoni has already played nearly 30 percent of India’s matches in International cricket.
It is an unchallenged statement to call MS Dhoni the greatest wicketkeeper in Indian history who has represented India for over 13 years in International cricket and might play a couple of more before retiring. Dhoni, who is also the longest-serving Indian captain holds prominent spots in the Indian wicketkeeping records. In his 13-year career, Dhoni has already played nearly 30 percent of India’s matches in International cricket, all as a keeper.
He has scored 15,809 runs till date in 478 matches while all other keepers who played for India collectively aggregate 21,032 runs in 1054 matches with 17 100s, only two more than Dhoni’s tally. He alone has effected 750 dismissals across format for India while the remaining 37 keepers effected 1676 dismissals.

The difference is the highest in ODI cricket as Dhoni managed to score 9652 runs in 306 matches at an astonishing average of 51.34 while the remaining 34 collectively scored 7264 runs in 624 matches at an average of 22.42.

Out of these 7264 runs, Rahul Dravid alone scored 2300 at 44.23 runs in 73 matches. So far, Indian keepers have scored 13 centuries in ODIs out of which nine belong to MS Dhoni while the remaining four are in the name of Dravid. The batting great who served as a part-time keeper to give India an option of playing an extra specialist batsman effected 86 dismissals in his ODI career behind the stumps.

When it comes to Test cricket, Dhoni doesn’t have as big an advantage as he had in ODIs and overall International numbers. However, he is the highest run-getter among Indian keepers and also has the record for effecting the most number of dismissals.
