Statistical Highlights - Pakistan vs England, 1st ODI
Pakistan’s day started with the news of Younis Khan’s retirement from ODIs. The fighter announced his retirement in his comeback match. Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bat first only to be reduced to 14 for 3. The captain himself and James Taylor then added 134 runs for the fourth wicket to uplift the team but the lower middle-order betrayed and England were again in trouble at 180 for 8. Chris Woakes took England to a more respectable total 216 all out.
Pakistan’s chase also started with a hue and cry as both openers were back in the pavilion at in the first 20 balls. Younis Khan then came out to bat in his last ODI and was dismissed cheaply for 9. Mohammad Hafeez then scored a century with helps from Shoaib Malik and youngster Babar Azam (62*) to guide Pakistan comfortably home with a six-wicket win. His effort was rewarded by a Man of the Match Award.

- The Difference – Pakistan’s top-three experienced players had a combined match experience of 660 games; 389 better than England’s 271. Even England’s all 11 players added cannot match the figure.

- Century Man – Mohammad Hafeez scored his 11th ODI century today; third highest for batsmen from Pakistan. Saeed Anwar (20) and Mohammad Yousuf (15) are ahead of him.
- 24 – Man of the Match Awards won by Mohammad Hafeez in all formats in this decade (since January 1, 2011); second only to Virat Kohli’s 25.

- Suitable Position – 41.73 is what Mohammad Hafeez averages when he bats at one down, almost 12 units better than 29.70 he averages opening the innings. Seven of his 11 ODI Centuries have come batting at no. 3.
- Attacking from Down the Order – Four sixes hit by Babar Azam in his innings of 62* were the most hit by a Pakistani no. 6 batsman since Shahid Afridi struck the same against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2010.
- The Goodbye – Younis Khan was playing his final ODI match today. The veteran has featured in 265 games and has scored 7249 runs at an average of 31.24 with the help of seven centuries and forty-eight half centuries.
