Statistical Highlights – South Africa vs England, 1st ODI

As we saw the Test series which had been won by England by 2-1 and the same story will repeat here as England has won the first rain-affected match by 39 runs and scored their second highest total in ODIs with the combined effort of Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Alex Hales and Ben Stokes and post a target of 400 runs against South Africa.

While chasing this mammoth total, South Africa lost Amla early but Q de Kock and Faf du Plessis managed a good partnership of 110 runs but then after Africa had lost the wickets of du Plessis and de Villiers in quick succession as both had been removed by Moeen Ali but de Kock scored freely from the other and notched up his 9th ton in ODIs but when match was called off South Africa were 39 runs behind so they lost the match and de Kock’s ton went in vain.

Stats from the 1st ODI between South Africa and England:

399/9 – This is England’s second highest total in ODIs and their highest total against South Africa in ODIs. Their highest total of 408/9 in ODIs came against New Zealand last year on June 9 in Birmingham.

37.21 – Average at which Jos Buttler has scored his 1749 runs from 65 ODI matches as a wicket-keeper of England team which is best among other England keepers who have played more than 50 ODIs for England as wicket-keepers.

118.49 – Strike rate at which Jos Buttler has scored his runs in ODIs which is highest among other England wicket-keeper batsmen in ODIs. He has scored his 1749 runs from 65 ODI matches at a strike rate of 118.49.

4th – Ben Stokes became fourth England batsman who has scored a fifty against South Africa while batting at no.6 in ODIs. Other three England batsmen who had scored fifties against South Africa while batting at no.6 in ODIs are NH Fairbrother, SJ Rhodes and MW Alleyne.

57 – Number of Runs scored by Ben Stokes in first ODI match against South Africa which is most by any England batsman against South Africa while batting at no.6 in ODIs along with NH Fairbrother who had also made 57* runs against South Africa in Johannesburg on 13 January, 1996.

105 – Number of Runs scored by Jos Buttler against South Africa in the first ODI match which is most by any England no.4 batsman in ODIs along with Paul Collingwood who had also once made 105* in his ODI career while batting at no.4 for England in ODIs.

9 – Number of Hundreds scored by Q de Kock in his career as a wicket-keeper batsman in ODIs which is second most by any South African wicket-keeper after AB de Villiers who has scored 10 tons in ODIs being a wicket-keeper of South African team.

0 – Number of South African batsman who completed 2000 ODI runs at a younger age than de Kock’s 23 years and 48 days. Previous youngest South African batsman who achieved that milestone was Jacques Kallis who completed his 2000 ODI runs at an age of 23 years and 192 days.

1st – Q de Kock became 1st South African wicket-keeper to score 50+ runs against England in ODIs. In the first match, he scored 138* runs from 96 balls.

6 – Number of Sixes hit by Q de Kock in his innings of 138* runs against England last night which is second most by any South African batsman against England in an innings of an ODI match. Justin Kemp holds the record for hitting more sixes against England in an innings of an ODI match among South African batsmen. He hit 7 sixes against England on 9 February, 2005 in East London.

53 – Number of Innings taken by Q de Kock to reach to 2000 runs in ODI cricket which is second fastest (in terms of innings) by any batsman in ODIs. Hashim Amla who held the record, completed his 2000 runs in 52 innings in ODIs.

4 – Number of ODI hundreds Jos Buttler has made it in less than 100 balls in ODIs which is fourth most in a category of players who made their tons less than 100 balls in ODIs. AB de Villiers has made 8 hundreds in ODIs by taking less than 100 balls while Virender Sehwag had made 6 and Sanath Jayasuriya had made 5 hundreds in his career by taking less than 100 ball. Shahid Afridi has scored 4 hundreds In ODIs by taking less than 100 balls.

17th – Q de Kock became seventeenth South African batsman who has scored more than 2000 runs in ODIs. In yesterday’s match, he scored 138* runs from 96 balls. Other 16 South African batsmen who have scored more than 2000 runs in ODIs are J Kallis, AB de Villiers, H Gibbs, G Smith, G Kirtsen, H Amla, J Rhodes, W Cronje, M Boucher, JP Duminy, D Cullinan, L Klusener, S Pollock, B Dippenaar, Faf du Plessis and A Hudson.
