Stats: Aaron Finch hits the joint fastest fifty by an Australian in ODIs

Aaron Finch recorded the fastest fifty in One Day International (ODI) cricket for Australia in the 4th ODI match of the series against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

Finch got to his fifty in 18 deliveries and with that he equalled the record with former Australian cricketer Simon O’Donnell and the Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Finch scored 49 runs from 15 deliveries but failed to add one more run in the next deliveries as he missed the first one and the second ball was hit straight to the fielder.

Australia was chasing a merely small total of 213 to win the 4th ODI and the series they are leading 2-1 already. On the other hand, it is a must-win for the hosts, Sri Lanka to keep their hopes alive of winning the series.

Despite winning the toss and batting first, nothing went Sri Lanka’s way as they kept losing wickets and to add to the worry, their skipper Angelo Mathews got injured while batting. However, a target of 213 was not an easy one on the slow turning track at Dambulla. Aaron Finch walked in with a positive mindset and made his intentions very clear as he scored 4 boundaries off the first 4 balls he faced.

Finch was trapped leg-before-wicket in the very next ball by Sachith Pathirana after achieving the feat as he finished with 55 runs from 19 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes.
