Virat Kohli has been in a sublime form in the ongoing calendar year and it does not matter now that which format he is playing on the field. He has now become the fifth fastest batsman in the world to reach the milestone of 20 Test tons in just 105 innings. The run machine helped himself to the landmark century in the first innings of the final Test match against Sri Lanka at New Delhi on Saturday. It was also third consecutive century in the longer format of the game.

The Indian captain started the year with consecutive low scores in the four-match Test series against Australia. But had a great run in the international cricket after that disappointing series. He scored a well-deserved hundred at Kolkata in the first Test match and followed it with a double hundred at Nagpur in the ongoing Sri Lanka series.

Virat Kohli joins another list of greats

The 29-year-old Delhi boy has joined another list which consists of some of great legends of the game. Former Aussie cricketer Sir Don Bradman is at the top being the fastest batsman to reach the 20 Test hundreds mark in just 55 innings. He is followed by former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar who took 93 innings, while the third is another former Australian batsman Mathew Hayden who has taken 95 innings to achieve the record ton. Kohli surpasses his idol and the legend of Indian cricket Sachin Tendulkar who reached the landmark of 20 Test hundreds in 107 innings.

There are only two names from the current generation batsman in the charts, current Aussie captain Steve Smith at fourth spot with 99 innings and the Indian captain Virat Kohli is on the fifth spot. Both these modern day batsman have been pretty much consistent in the longest format of the game. They know exactly how to convert their starts to big hundreds, which both their two competitors Joe Root and Kane Williamson have lacked in comparison of centuries amongst the fab four of this generation.
