Indian captain Virat Kohli was in a sublime form coming into the opening Test against Australia in Pune but couldn’t continue his golden run and was dismissed for a two-ball duck by arguably the greatest left-arm seamer of the modern generation Mitchell Starc. With the score at 44/2, Kohli played an expansive drive which took the outside edge and was safely pouched by Peter Handscomb stationed in the 1st slip region.
It was a horrendous shot from arguably the greatest modern day batsman and the celebrations from the Australian camp proved the magnitude of his wicket. Kohli who has been in scintillating run-scoring form in the home season was dismissed for a duck after 104 innings. His last score of zero came way back in 2014 during the Test series in England where he managed to score only 134 runs in 10 innings at a below par average of 13.4.
The record for most consecutive innings without getting dismissed for a duck is held by former Indian captain Rahul Dravid followed by arguably the greatest batsman of all time, Sachin Tendulkar. While Rahul played 173 innings without getting out for a duck during the span of 2000 to 2004, Tendulkar, on the other hand, played 136 innings from 2008 to 2013 where he wasn’t dismissed for a duck.
The former English captain and wicketkeeper Alec Stewart holds the 3rd position with 135 innings without getting out for a duck followed by former Caribbean captain Carl Hooper who played 122 innings from 1997 to 2003 where he wasn’t for a duck. The list also features some former greats of the game. Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad and the current South African Test captain Faf du Plessis holds the 6th and the 7th position followed by Virat Kohli. The last two in the list features former Pakistan middle order batsman Mohammad Yousuf and legendary World-Cup winning captain Clive Llyod.
