The Indian captain Virat Kohli has entered into the unique list of legends as he scored his third consecutive century in as many innings against Sri Lanka. The ongoing series has been a treat to watch for the fans of Kohli as he has been shattering the records with his batting. He brought up 20th Test ton of his career like a routine and was untroubled throughout his journey. However, he also became the first Indian captain to score three consecutive centuries in a similar number of outings twice.
Alan Melville from South Africa leads the charts for a long time who smashed four consecutive tons in 4 innings against England in 1947. Interestingly, his record is split across eight years as he had brought up his first century among that record in 1939 and then played for his country in 1947 to bring up his next three quickly. The list also includes the likes of Sir Donald Bradman, Graham Gooch, Mahela Jayawardena and Misbah Ul Haq who has three each alike Kohli.

Also, India is on the receiving end twice in the charts with Bradman and Gooch piling on the runs against them in 1948 and 1990 respectively. Sri Lanka, however, is facing such a stick for the first time when a particular player has had their back throughout the series. Virat Kohli is still looking good in the middle and might well notch up his sixth double century on Sunday unless a miracle helps the island nation.
Can Kohli equal the record in SA?
Virat Kohli has a golden chance of equalling the record of Alan Melville of scoring four centuries in as many innings. There is a second innings left in the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka but it is less likely that he will get a chance to bat in the second innings if the pattern of the series is anything to go by. But the bigger test awaits for the captain courageous and if he continues in the same vein against Proteas, he has the ability to own the record which hasn’t been broken for almost 70 years now.
