D’Arcy Short produced one of the devastating innings ever in the One-Day format as he blazed through to a double century in the JLT One-Day Cup. Playing for the Western Australia team, the left-hander smashed a record 257 off just 148 balls. The Australian International walked out to bat at three in the 3rd over of the innings and produced a sensational effort facing the Queensland bowlers. He hit a total of 23 sixes and 15 fours during this massacre.

While wickets kept falling at one end, Short kept scoring and increased the pace as the innings went on. He brought up his fifty in 57 balls and took only 26 more to reach the triple figure mark. By the 36th over, Short was sending the ball to the fence with utter ease and raced to 150 in 106 deliveries. Hat-trick of sixes off Charlie Hemphrey helped the all-rounder raise his double ton in only 128 balls. He was stumped in the 46th over trying for his 24th biggie but the knock helped WACA team post 387 before getting bowled out in 47 overs.

The 257-run knock by D’Arcy is overall the third highest in List A cricket. Had he not been dismissed, the left-hander had a great chance to become the first triple centurion in this format. His innings is the highest by a player while not opening the innings. Ben Duckett scored 220* for England Lions in 2016 while batting at number three while Graeme Pollock scored an unbeaten 222 at No.4 way back in 1974/75 in South Africa.

Short’s knock is also the highest by an Australian and in the country in this format surpassing Ben Dunk’s unbeaten 229 in 2014/15 Domestic One-Day Cup also coming against Queensland.

D’Arcy Short hit 23 sixes during his record-breaking knock which are the most by any player in a List A innings. He bettered the previous record by six maximums which was held by Namibia Gerrie Snyman (17 sixes) in a List A game in 2007/08 against UAE. Between 2013 and 2015, three players hit 16 sixes in an ODI inning but none managed to break the 17 sixes barrier. The 23 sixes hit by Short are also the joint-most in an innings in a professional cricket game.

Colin Munro managed to clear the ropes 23 times during his 281-run knock for Auckland in the New Zealand’s Domestic FC match. Shafiqullah Shafaq hit 22 sixes during his 89-ball double century in Afghanistan Domestic FC game this year.
