Stats: Highest scores of all-rounders with 200 plus wickets in Tests
Ravindra Jadeja is among the few active all-rounders in the top ten highest scores of all-rounders with 200 plus wickets in Tests.
All-rounders have been instrumental to any team’s success in international cricket and the amount of impact they can create has been moving up the ladder. Right from the era of Kapil Dev to the present era of Ben Stokes, they all have played a big part with both bat and ball. The trend has however been with the bowling all-rounders scoring big centuries as it becomes a huge plus in bringing a big effect on the opposite side as well.
Coming down to the top-ten highest scores by all-rounders with over 200 Test wickets, former West Indian great Gary Sobers leads the chart with the highest score of an unbeaten 365 against Pakistan in 1958 at the Sabina Park in Kingston. Sobers also had picked 235 wickets in his Test career and is among the legendary all-rounders in the format.
Wasim Akram, who is much known for his bowling credentials, came up with an excellent unbeaten 257 against Zimbabwe at the Sheikhupura Stadium in 1996. It is still the second-highest by an all-rounder who had more than 200 wickets while Akram is among the best bowlers to have played the game.
Jacques Kallis, Shakib Al Hasan, Ian Botham all were conventional all-rounders who could bat up the order alongside being highly effective with the ball and it is not a surprise that they feature in the list. Stuart Broad was a surprise package as he scored 169 against Pakistan at the Lords in 2010. Andrew Flintoff is among the greatest all-rounders as well to have played from his country and Kapil Dev has the tenth highest score among all-rounders to have taken 200 wickets.
Ravindra Jadeja enters the list
The latest entrant to the list has been India’s Ravindra Jadeja and he’s among the few active all-rounders to feature in the list. The left-hander has improved his batting immensely in the last two to three years and he took his batting to the next level against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Mohali. Jadeja’s 175 not out is the seventh-highest score by an all-rounder now who has 200 wickets in Tests and this will be a huge boost to his Test career moving forward.
