Stats: Jason Roy, MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya shine during England's power-packed innings

England came out all guns blazing in the decider of the 3-match T20I series against India and posted a total of 198/9 on the board. The openers Jason Roy and Jos Buttler powered their side to a huge powerplay score clearing the short boundaries in Bristol with utmost ease. India kept taking the wickets in the middle and end overs to stop the hosts below 200. Roy top-scored with a 31-ball 67 that included seven sixes while Hardik Pandya bagged a 4-wicket haul recovering after well conceding 22 runs in his first over.

Stats and numbers recorded during England’s innings in the final game of the T20I series:

4/38 – Hardik Pandya’s figures make it the joint 5th expensive 4-wicket haul and the 2nd 4-fer by an Indian in T20I cricket. Yuzvendra Chahal’s 4/52 against Sri Lanka in the Indore T20I last year is the most expensive T20I 4-wicket haul. This is also Pandya’s maiden 4-wicket haul across T20 and List A cricket.

5 – Number of catches MS Dhoni took in the England innings. He is the first player (keeper/fielder) to take five catches in a T20I. There are 13 instances when players took four catches in a T20I including Dhoni’s done it twice.

He is the 2nd keeper to effect five dismissals in a T20I after Afghanistan’s Mohammad Shahzad who took three catches and effected two stumpings in the T20I against Oman in 2015.

16 – The Indian pacers bowled as many as 16 overs in this game which is the joint most by them in a T20I. India used 16 overs of pace in the 2007 WT20 against Pakistan, South Africa, England and in the 1st and 3rd T20Is in the South Africa series this year.

23 – Roy’s 23-ball fifty is the joint 2nd fastest fifty in T20I cricket for England. Jos Buttler scored a 22-ball fifty against Australia in the one-off T20I before this series. Roy is currently tied with Ravi Bopara who also took 23 balls for his fifty in the 2014 Hobart T20I against Australia.

43 – Deepak Chahar conceded 43 runs in this game which is the joint 5th most by an Indian on his T20I debut. Joginder Sharma conceded 57 runs in the 2007 WT20 game against England which is the most by an Indian on his debut.

73/0 – England’s 73/0 in the first six overs of this game is their 2nd highest powerplay score in the T20I format. They made 89/3 against South Africa in the WT20 2016 game in Mumbai.

198/9 – England’s total of 198/9 is the 3rd highest T20I total by any side losing nine and more wickets. Ireland made 205 against Afghanistan in 2017 before being bowled out while England made 200/9 in the 2014 Hobart T20I against Australia. Both instances of 200+ scores for the loss of nine and more wickets was achieved while chasing.
